NU Admission Merit List: How It Is Prepared

Understanding how the NU Honours Admission Merit List is prepared helps you assess your chances. Your merit score is calculated out of 200 marks, combining your performance in the admission test and your academic achievements in SSC and HSC or their equivalents. You receive 100 marks from your admission test score, and the remaining 100 marks come from your SSC and HSC GPAs—using 40% from SSC (including the fourth subject) and 60% from HSC.

To be eligible for merit list consideration, you must achieve at least 35 marks out of 100 in the admission test. Only those who meet this minimum threshold will have their merit score evaluated. Each affiliated college prepares separate, subject-based merit lists according to students’ preferences and performance.

If multiple candidates receive the same merit score, several tiebreaker criteria determine ranking. These include higher marks in the admission test, higher combined GPA (using 40% SSC and 60% HSC, excluding the fourth subject), higher combined marks (including the fourth subject), and, if necessary, the candidate’s earlier date of birth or lower roll number.

NU Admission Confirmation

Once your name appears in any of the merit lists, you must confirm your admission within the specified time frame provided by the National University. Detailed instructions and deadlines will be announced along with the result. To confirm your admission, fill out the online admission form and pay the required fees. If you do not confirm your admission within the given period, your allocated seat and position will be automatically cancelled, and you will lose your chance for that round. During the final admission process, you can enable auto migration. If you select this option, you will be considered for a higher preference according to your choice list in subsequent rounds.

After completing the admission form, pay the admission fees and submit all necessary documents to your allocated college. If you are not listed in the 1st merit list, look out for the 2nd merit list and further opportunities. Students who score at least 35% marks in the admission test and do not secure admission in the merit lists can apply through the Release Slip process.

Honours Admission Release Slip

If you passed the admission test but did not secure a place in any merit list, the Release Slip process gives you another opportunity to gain admission. The National University will announce two Release Slip rounds, allowing eligible candidates to apply for available seats in specific subjects and colleges.

Only applicants who passed the admission test are eligible for the Release Slip application. If you did not pass the test, you cannot apply through this process. The Release Slip application depends on the availability of vacant seats in your desired subjects and colleges.

During the Release Slip application, you can select up to five colleges and specify your subject preferences for each. This flexibility increases your chances of securing admission in your preferred discipline. You are eligible to apply for a Release Slip if you:

  • Did not get a place in the 1st or 2nd merit lists,
  • Were allocated a seat in a merit list but later cancelled your admission,
  • Or got a place in the merit list but did not get admitted to the allocated subject.
